Help us to shape a cure!

Do you, or a family member, have Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis? We need your help for a research study investigating the causes of these diseases.

We are writing to you, to let you know about an ongoing international research study into the causes of inflammatory bowel disease, and to invite you to participate.

The study is aimed at identifying the genes that may cause Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in the Ashkenazi Jewish population, in whom it is four times more common.

Researchers at UCL (University College London), led by Professor Anthony Segal, are recruiting Jewish individuals and their families with these disorders for an international research study.

Employing cutting-edge genetic technology, we hope to further our understanding of the underlying causes of these diseases with a view to developing new treatment options in the future.

Participation is simple and involves providing a saliva sample by post at no cost to you. Either Rebbetzen Dr. Elena Schiff (wife of Rabbi Naftali Schiff, Director of Aish HaTorah UK) or Dr. Adam Levine will explain the research on the phone and then post to your address a package with everything enclosed including a stamped addressed envelope for returning the saliva sample, a consent form and a brief record sheet with a few details of your diagnosis.

Self-understood, participation is strictly confidential, and privacy protected. The researchers are holding with Shidduchim and other issues and appreciate the confidentiality element beyond the professional obligation.

This is important research aimed to help find the cause and ultimately improved treatments of a disease that affects our community in great numbers.

Please do consider getting in touch with us and we will set you up with Dr. Schiff to contact you. Please supply us the best way to reach you.

We would be delighted to hear from you. The more participants the greater the potential impact of the research. Your participation is much appreciated.
