Mazel Tov! Bill S3295 - Crohn's & Colitis Fairness Act has PASSED!

Congratulations!

We are delighted to say that A1982/S3295, the “New York Crohn’s and Colitis Fairness Act” passed the New York State Senate on June 19; And now heads to Governor Cuomo, all we still need for it to become law is the Governor’s signature and a wait period of 120 days, we anxiously await the final good news we are hoping for.

Special kudos to all the people who sent emails and placed calls to their representatives and legislators! Every step you made brought it a step closer to this success!

Please stay tuned for updates and further alerts in case there is any action needed to ensure the Governor signs the bill into law.

Thanks again for all of your efforts to support passing the restroom access legislation in New York State once and for all!

And, Sorry for the delay on the exciting news…

Re: Bill S3295 - Crohn's & Colitis Fairness Act - NY State Restroom Access Act

The New York State legislature is close to passing Bill S3295, the Crohn's & Colitis Fairness Act. The bill has passed in the Assembly 104 Yea vs 4 Nay, and 16 Aye - 0 Nay (with 1 Aye with Reservations) in the Senate Health Committee, and is on its 3rd reading in the Senate which means it is expected to come to a vote in June.

It is up to Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan to move S3295, the Crohn's & Colitis Fairness Act to the active list and put it up for a vote before the 6/21 end of the session. He will be more likely to put S3295 up for a vote if he hears that it’s important to his constituents and other Senators.

Call your State Senator's Albany office (518 number) and urge them to call Senator Flanagan and urge him to put S3295 up for a vote. Please keep calling and continue to follow up until the bill is passed!

Click here to contact your New York State Senator today and tell them to pass S3295! Or you can reply to us with your address and we will send you your senators information to call.

2017 has to be the year that restroom access becomes a reality in New York State! We only have 6 days left to raise our voices, Senate session closes on Wednesday, June 21. Please act now!

Advocacy Action Alert for tomorrow, June 5 | Crohn's & Colitis Fairness Act

We need your help! New York State is One Step Closer to Passing the Crohn’s and Colitis Fairness Act

Good news! New York State is one step closer to passing the Crohn’s and Colitis Fairness Act (Bill S3295), and we need YOU to take action today to ensure its passage by the New York State Senate. The bill would allow people with medical conditions that require urgent restroom use - such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis - to use an employee-only restroom when a public one is not available and it is safe for the business to do so.

The bill has passed the Senate Health Committee and now sits on the Senate Calendar awaiting action. We need YOUR help to get the bill on the “active list” for a reading and vote on the Senate floor.

In order to make a strong case for this bill, JCCSG and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation will be in Albany TOMORROW to personally advocate Senators.

What can you do now?

  1. Identify your New York State Senator here:  http://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator
  2. Contact your State Senator by phone and email (email template below) to ask for their support of this bill (S3295) and explain why it is personally important to you. Ask your Senator to push Senator John Flanagan, Temporary President and Majority Leader of the Senate, to put it on the active list and bring it to a vote this session.  The legislative session ends on June 21, so please do this as soon as possible.
  3. Ask your friends and family in NY State to do the same! It really is that easy. With enough of our voices being heard, we are confident we will get the Crohn’s and Colitis Fairness Act passed in New York this year, and you will have been a part of the process!
  4. Show your Senator that you support the billhttps://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2017/s3295/amendment/original#yes
  5. If you are able to visit your State Senator in person, the materials here are helpful to leave behind.

Dear  ______________,

I am a voter/constituent in your district and I am asking for your support of Bill S3295, which enacts the "Crohn's and Colitis Fairness Act" providing restroom access. Please contact Senator Flanagan to have him put this bill (S3295) on the active list and vote for it when it comes before you.

S3295 would allow people with medical conditions that require urgent restroom use- such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis- to use an employee's only restroom when a public one is not available and it is safe for the business to do so. In NY State there are more than 100,000 people with these debilitating diseases. I am sure you can imagine how it must feel to be denied access to a bathroom when you so desperately need one because of a severe and chronic medical condition. S3295 is important to me because...
(I have IBD or am related to or friends with - whatever personal connection you wish to share).

Thank you,
